Famous Buildings of Pécs

FAMOUS BUILDINGS OF PÉCS

There are numerous buildings in town representing the uniqueness of Pécs and reflecting its colourful and rich history. One of these buildings is definitely the Cathedral of Pécs – from its towers you can see a spectacular view of the city

You can find the biggest synagogue of the Transdanubia in Pécs, built in the 19th century, located also in the downtown of Pécs.

Evoking memories from the era of the Turkish reign, the two mosques of the city can be found in the downtown of Pécs. The Mosque of Pasha Gazi Qashim is on the main square of Pécs while the Jakovali Hassan Pasa’s Mosque can be found in Kórház square.

Up in Mecsek Hill the Havihegyi Church is another symbol of Pécs. Built in memoriam of the plague pandemic in 1690-91, the building is a catholic church. The almond tree in front of it became the Tree of the Year in 2019.
