Besides being the oldest university in the country, the University of Pécs has earned a prominent position in terms of international excellence as well. The entire institution, as well as many of our faculties and study programmes took leading positions in highly recognized international rankings.

World University Rankings
The 2023 list includes 13 Hungarian universities among the nearly 1,800 ranked institutions, with PTE ranked in the 1001-1200 category. The criteria taken into account are: quality of teaching and research, academic citations, international and industrial relations.
Emerging Economies University Rankings
The ranked institutions were selected from the countries classified as "emerging economies", where a total of 606 universities' data were taken into account in the final ranking. Our university is ranked 201-250.
In addition to the THE's overall world rankings, THE also publishes subject world rankings each year, in which PTE is included. Together with the University of Debrecen, PTE is ranked 501-600 in the field of clinical sciences. PTE was also ranked in the top 500 in the field of psychology.
Universities are ranked against the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals in the Impact Rankings. PTE attaches importance to these goals and is proud of the fact that our university has achieved a ranking in each of the goals, with outstanding results in several of them: in the categories of health and well-being (FFC3) and decent work and economic growth (FFC8), PTE was ranked second among Hungarian universities, and in the topic of action against climate change (FFC13) it was tied for first.

World University Rankings
The list of the world's best higher education institutions has again included PTE, ranked 701-750. In addition, Hungary's first university is ranked the 225th best university in the world in the international students category!
The Quacquarelli Symonds experts have been compiling the world university rankings annually since 2004, based on six criteria. The final ranking is based on the perception of the academic community, the opinion of employers, the citation rate of academic works associated with the institution, the student-teacher ratio and the number of foreign faculty and students. The ranking is based on a survey of 2 462 higher education institutions, of which 1 422 universities were ranked.

Emerging Europe and Central Asia University Rankings
The London-based firm Quacquarelli Symonds has ranked the strongest universities in emerging Europe and Central Asia based on ten objective criteria. Our university is ranked 60th in 2022.

Global Ranking of Academic Subjects
GRAS ranks universities in 54 subject lists based on scientific publications and citations. PTE is ranked 401-500 in both public health and clinical medicine, ranking first in the former and second in the latter, respectively.
- UI GreenMetric
PTE is the 1st greenest university in Hungary and the 21st greenest in the world!
PTE 2022 is the seventh time that PTE has been measured in the "UI GreenMetric World University Rankings". The University of Pécs was ranked 21st among the world's "green universities" with 1050 universities, and for the third time out of the 11 Hungarian universities in the ranking, it was the best, earning the title of the greenest Hungarian university in 2022.

Our university participated for the first time in the ranking, which takes into account 4 main criteria: quality of teaching and research, internationalisation and financial sustainability. PTE was ranked 161st among the world's best universities in terms of quality of education.
