270 students will participate in the Pécs Summer School program this year, which includes seven summer universities. The academic programs are provided by the faculties of the University of Pécs, while the International Centre is in charge of the overall organisation of the programs.

The Pécs Summer School 2022 series starts this week with the European Studies Erasmus+ BIP program, in which students from Slovak and Czech partner universities participate together with students from the University of Pécs. In June, the "Europe in the Global Arena - 2022" Summer University for Central European students will take place under the CEEPUS program. In July, students from the EDUC alliance will come to Pécs for two weeks to participate in the "Law and Technology" course provided by the Faculty of Law and Political Science. In parallel, a summer university on Hungary's cultural heritage will take place, the academic part of which will be provided by the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Education and Regional Development. This year, for the first time a group of 40 students from the French ESIEA University will come to the University of Pécs for a four-week English language and intercultural training course, offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. For the fifth consecutive year, our university will host a group of students from Josai International University in Japan, who will learn about Hungarian folk dance and music from professors in the Faculty of Arts and Music. The week-long "Debate Tournament", organised for the students from the Compostela Group of Universities, will conclude the program series.

In addition to the classes, summer school students can take part in a wide variety of cultural activities. The aim of these social programs is to familiarise participants with the city of Pécs and the region, and to give them an intercultural experience of a lifetime. The programs include museum visits, a quiz night, an intercultural evening, a goulash soup cooking program, wine tasting, sports competition and a beach party.

The Pécs Summer School program was launched in 2016 by the former Directorate of Foreign Affairs with the aim of increasing the number of summer schools held at the University of Pécs every year. The main objective was to

create a "Summer Trimester" with an increasing number of international summer schools in different subject areas.

The new international strategy, which is currently in development, also places the organisation of summer and winter universities high on the university's agenda.

There is growing interest from students worldwide in participating in short-term programs. Recognising this, the Erasmus BIP program has been introduced within the Erasmus+ program in 2022, and the provision of summer schools for students is also becoming more common with the different university associations. For two years the University of Pécs has been organising summer schools for students of the EDUC alliance and for the Compostela Group of Universities with great success.

Thanks to the increasing number of summer schools, the University of Pécs has become a market leader in this field among Hungarian higher education institutions. For its implementation of successful short-term programs, in 2021 the University of Pécs was awarded the most prestigious European recognition – the EAIE Excellence in Internationalisation Award.
