After three intensive weeks of academic discovery and cultural immersion, forty Chinese students celebrate the completion of the University of Pécs’ winter programme—organised by the Study Abroad and Summer School Office—marking a new chapter in international academic cooperation.
The 2026 Pécs Winter School has officially drawn to a close, leaving behind a trail of new friendships and profound cultural insights. Hosted by the International Centre, the programme brought together students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shandong University for a deep dive into "European Art and Culture." From the lecture halls of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences to the historic ramparts of Siklós Castle, the city of Pécs served as the perfect backdrop for this intercultural exchange.

The closing ceremony provided a moment of reflection on a journey that spanned from the vineyards of Villány to the grand architecture of Budapest. Amidst the presentation of certificates, the atmosphere was one of shared achievement and gratitude.

The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and social sciences, dr. Krisztián Bene closed the past three weeks by emphasising the importance of cultural exchanges. After the speech of organiser of the event, dr. Gyöngyi Pozsgai, head of the Study Abroad and Summer School Office, the Chinese students delivered heartfelt presentations reflecting on their journey through Hungary. The presenters highlighted their deep appreciation for the opportunity to immerse themselves in Hungarian culture, extending their gratitude to the organizers and specifically to the student mentors who “made them feel at home.” In a moving final gesture, one student performed a song in Chinese about love, expressing that the meaningful connections she formed were the most important part of her experience at the University of Pécs.

As the participants prepare for their journey home, they leave as ambassadors of the University of Pécs. This successful programme reinforces the university’s role as a global meeting point, proving that even in the coldest months of winter, the warmth of international friendship can flourish. While the lessons on Central European history have concluded, the memories and connections forged in Pécs will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
