Welcome to the UP! – Orientation Day

In this semester 100 Erasmus students arrived at the 10 faculties of UP from 27 countries and 70 partner universities within the framework of Erasmus+ Programme. Many students came to the UP within the framework of other inter-university agreements:  from Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Russia, China, Serbia, Ukraine, United States, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, Ethiopia and Israel.

The event – in which beside the invited students also Faculty Erasmus coordinators were also present – was held at the Centre for Learning on 29 January. 

At the orientation day, students could have been informed about the practicalities concerning registration, their duties as foreign citizens, student hostels as well as about the Hungarian as a foreign language course at the University and cultural programmes for international students.

On behalf of the university Dr. István Tarrósy, director of the Centre for International Relations greeted the foreign students who will study at our university in the framework Erasmus+ and other contracts between universities in this first semester of the academic year of 2019/2020. 

In his welcome speech the director said:

"We are the center of the internationalisation programme of the University of Pecs (UP) which is a top priority. The UP is definitely one of the most highly internationalised institutions of the region, our total student population means 20000 Hungarian students and we also have 4600 international students representing 27 countries."

The director’s presentation ended with an unconventional language course where the students had to stand up and learn some basic Hungarian words like ’szia’ and ’Pécs’.

Judit Németh, ERASMUS + coordinator described the process of the student administration.  Aus Haddad  introduced the The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) presented its cultural and sports events for UP students.
