The Denver from a Pécs perspective photo exhibition opened on November 19 in the main hall of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (MIK) in the framework of the International Seasons event series. The exhibit showcases the American metropolis through photographs taken by faculty members who have spent time in Denver as part of the collaboration between the Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) and the University of Pécs (PTE).
The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. István Tarrósy, director of the International Centre of PTE. In his speech, he highlighted the strengthened partnership with representatives of MSU Denver, signed earlier in the day, and spoke about the decade-long cooperation between the two institutions. He noted that this partnership has enabled faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts, and members of the International Centre to become familiar with Denver and the MSU campus, whether through short-term visits or longer stays.
The director listed the names of those whose photographs are on display, including 20 faculty members from three different faculties and members of the International Centre. He expressed his gratitude to MSU Denver’s representatives and invited everyone for a drink and to appreciate the exhibition.
Dr. Gabriella Medvegy, dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, also attended the opening. The main hall faintly buzzed with conversation, from time to time students were drawn to look up from their sketches and laptops to catch a glimpse of the event.
After the official program concluded, the exhibition retained its lively atmosphere. Visitors – including faculty members reminiscing about their time in Denver and international students exchanging thoughts over a glass of wine as they strolled among the floating photographs delicately mounted on thin wires – continued to mingle and chat.
The photos, dating back to 2013, are representations of a rich intercultural connection. They depict moments from the collaboration between the two universities and show the striking landmarks of Colorado's capital city. The pictures guide visitors through a journey that spans from the brick-red ridges of the Rocky Mountains through downtown Denver’s streets to the scenic Auraria Campus. We can find ourselves lost just as much in alnalyzing the stands of the Broncos Stadium, as in the artistic details of Dr. Tibor Zoltán Dányi’s shot titled One of the 65 Days of the Year When the Sun Doesn’t Shine in Denver.
The photo exhibition, created for MSU Denver Day, will be on display in the main hall of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology until December 15.
