Visit of the Indonesian Ambassador to Pécs

His Excellency Dimas Wahab, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Hungary paid a visit to the University of Pécs on 6 October. He visited the growing Indonesian student contingent with his wife and a small delegation on the occasion of the Indonesian Day of the International Autumn event of the International Centre. Many Indonesian students have accepted the invitation to the meeting with the representative and the celebration of Indonesian culture.

On behalf of the University of Pécs, dr. István Tarrósy, director of the International Centre, and dr. Tamás Fedeles, Vice Rector for Education welcomed the Indonesian Ambassador, His Exc. Dimas Wahab, his delegation and more than 70 Indonesian students studying in Pécs.

"UP is an inclusive community where nearly 5,000 international students study from more than 100 countries.

We are delighted that our university has won the opportunity to participate in the Indonesian Government's Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards – IISMA Scholarship of Excellence programme, in the framework of which, 41 outstanding students have started their studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Economics, University of Pécs" - emphasized the Vice Rector. In his speech, he encouraged students to explore the colourful and diverse opportunities offered by the city and the university, and the importance and joy of making friends.

At the meeting, His Excellency Dimas Wahab, ambassador of Indonesia, a democratic state of Southeast Asia of more than 100 islands, highlighted the flourishing bilateral relations between the two countries, thanks to which the number of Indonesian citizens arriving to Hungary has doubled recently. He urged Indonesian students studying at the University of Pécs to explore cooperation opportunities and not to forget to pay particular attention to their studies. The delegation also thought about the health of the students, so they received a variety pack of vitamins as gifts along with special Indonesian snacks. After the meeting, the delegation and the students attended the opening of the special Shadow of the Shadows - The story of the Indonesian wayang kulit play at the MárkusZínház Theatre, as well as the opening ceremony of the Marsal-Tari Indonesian Collection exhibition.
