Expanding existing academic ties, promoting mobility, and implementing joint programmes are the key objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the University of Pécs (PTE) and the University of Pristina. The document was signed on 8th October 2026 by Adrián Fábián, Rector of PTE, and Rozafa Basha, Vice-Rector for International Relations at the University of Pristina, during the Western Balkans Forum on Higher Education and Innovation.
The forum, held on 8–9 October, was attended by Delfin Pllana, Ambassador of Kosovo to Hungary, and Hajrulla Çeku, Kosovo’s Minister of Education and Science. The MoU provides an institutional framework for professional collaborations already established between the two universities: architects from PTE’s Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, as well as experts from the Institute of Geography at the Faculty of Sciences, are already actively collaborating with their counterparts in Pristina.
In her address, Rozafa Basha praised the historical traditions, regional role, and research achievements of PTE. She particularly highlighted the university's international network, its number of international students, and its global projects. As she noted, academic collaboration between faculty members from both institutions has been ongoing for several years.
The Vice-Rector also recalled a visit to Pristina in May by earth science experts from PTE. The academic staff arrived with PhD students, delivered lectures to local students, and worked jointly with the University of Pristina’s Department of Geography to explore further opportunities for cooperation. According to Rozafa Basha, this MoU represents a continuation of these professional discussions and marks a significant step in strengthening regional ties.
The University of Pristina is an institution with a history spanning several decades and a broad offering of education and research, operating across fields such as law, medicine, and engineering. The signed MoU creates opportunities to further develop existing links, implement student and staff mobility as well as joint programmes, and involve additional academic fields.
