Rector Attila Miseta

Dear Students,

Ignaz Semmelweis, the "saviour of mothers", (a Hungarian physician and scientist, now known as an early pioneer of antiseptic procedures- the ed.) was born on July 1, 1818. This day, 1 July, is the day of Hungarian healthcare, when we commemorate the devoted service of health workers. However, considering the past year and a half, I think it is important to express our gratitude not only to the healthcare staff, but also to our students in the fields of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and health sciences!

Hundreds of students of the University of Pécs volunteered to join the fight against coronavirus and helped with the health activities. Our students worked responsibly at vaccination sites, PCR testing, laboratory processing of PCR results, in the Coronavirus Care Center, and even in intensive care units. We could count on them everywhere, and we cannot be grateful enough for that. I am therefore writing on behalf of the Ministry, the management of the university and the UP Clinical Centre concerning their dedicated help mentioned above: THANK YOU!

Without you, we would not be where we are in the fight against the virus.

Of course, we cannot sit back, as news from around the world about emerging virus variants urge us to remain cautious. At the same time, we now know that we can count on the students of the University of Pécs any time, and together we can succeed again, anytime, against any disease. And that feels really great!

We are extremely proud of you and grateful for your resourcefulness and helpfulness!

On the occasion of Semmelweis Day, I wish you very good health and a summer full of wonderful experiences, so that you can return to the University of Pécs in the autumn and continue your studies!

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Attila Miseta
