Dear colleagues, dear current and former students!

The border area between Turkey and Syria was rocked by a severe earthquake at dawn on 6 February. The number of victims of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake, followed by a subsequent quake with a magnitude of 7.5 is constantly increasing. At the moment, more than 30 thousand dead have already been identified, but the final number may unfortunately even exceed 50 thousand. It was shocking and painful to see the damage, the devastation that left millions without shelter and livelihoods.

Due to the tragic situation that has arisen, the University of Pécs would also like to express its sympathy and help the survivors, so we have decided to join the call of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Hungary, which would like to help support the victims of the earthquake that struck the Turkish-Syrian border region.

The leadership of the University of Pécs asks its teachers, employees, current and former students to help the victims of the earthquake!

At the invitation of the Turkish Embassy in Budapest, we organized the collection of material donations, which we implement with the involvement of student councils.

We have set up five collection points where donations from the list below are picked up during opening hours. The embassy does not accept used items for donations, please take this into account. What the injured need most are: blankets, blankets, winter tents, sleeping bags, beds, mattresses, pillows, baby food, canned food, dry non-perishable food, diapers, wet wipes, hygiene products. For food items, please make sure that they do NOT contain pork. Further details about the List of Needs »
