The IISMA Vocational program, part of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) scholarship initiative, concluded on December 18. During the program, 32 Indonesian students spent a productive fall semester at the University of Pécs.
The closing ceremony, organized by the Study Abroad and Summer School Office of the International Centre, took place in the Vargha Domján Conference Hall of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr. Gyöngyi Pozsgai, head of the Study Abroad and Summer School Office, welcomed the attendees, and served as the host of the event.
The opening speech was given by dr. Krisztián Bene, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He thanked the Indonesian government, praised the honorable and outstanding performance of the Indonesian students during the semester, and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Dr. Orsolya Máté, Director of Foreign Affairs at the Faculty of Health Sciences, who also taught a group of the students, spoke about how they became an integral part of the university community. She highlighted how the program enhanced the adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and knowledge of both the participants and the other university students. “Let us celebrate the bonds we formed between our nations,” she concluded, addressing the students with a heartfelt “terima kasih” (Thank you!).
Viktória Borda, Deputy Head of the Department of Community and Social Studies, recited the excellent feedback the faculty members expressed after working with the Indonesian students, who approached their tasks with curiosity, commitment and dedication. She also thanked the organizers and mentor students by name for their significant role in the program's success.
“You came to us as ambassadors of Indonesia, but from now on, you will also be ambassadors of our university for the rest of your life. Be the engine of the change you wish to be in your country!” – Viktória Borda said.
In addition to academic courses, the Indonesian students engaged in practical activites and immersed themselves in Hungarian culture. Umar Falahudin Arie Rahmat shared insights about the group's applied work at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, where they collaborated with local civil organizations. Assyifa Nasywa Kirani recounted their field experiences at the Faculty of Health Sciences and the diverse programs organized for the participants, including a Hungarian folk dance evening, an Indonesian cultural event, and even a tradicional Hungarian pastry-making workshop.
To formally remark the successful completion of the IISMA Vocational program, the participants received their well deserved certificates, and the Indonesian students also presented creative and colorful gifts to the organizers, faculty members, and mentor students. By this time, the conference hall had transformed into a lively scene of photoshoots, video recordings, and cheerful conversations, which continued during the post-event reception. The students’ sociability and friendliness filled the halls of the University of Pécs one last time.
