Covid-19 Vaccination Started at the Clinical Centre of UP

In the last two days of 2020, the Clinical Centre of the University of Pécs began vaccinating health care workers against Covid-19. Pfizer-BioNTech's vaccine arrived at UP central pharmacy on 30 December 2020, in the afternoon.

First, doctors and nurses from the Corona Virus Care Centre and the Emergency Care Unit will receive the vaccination. On 30 December, nearly 5,000 vaccines arrived at the university, which, given that for each vaccinated person three weeks after the first dose of the vaccine, a repeat vaccination should follow, is sufficient for more than 2,400 people.

Dr. Antal Tibold, head physician of UP’s Clinical Centre, gave the first Pfizer vaccine in Pécs. He said: "We are honoured to be able to give the first vaccinations, and glad this could have taken place still in 2020.

I encourage everyone to take this opportunity when they get the chance.

For those of us who work in health care, there can be no question that this is the right decision to make, we have to get vaccinated, because this can give us the protection we need!"

Chief Antal Tibold gave the first vaccination to Professor Csaba Csontos 

Dr. Csaba Csontos, head of the Corona Virus Care Centre of the Clinical Centre, University of Pécs, was one of the first to receive the vaccine.

This year, I had to stop both of my beloved hobbies: handball and playing cards with friends.

The professor began with a personal remark. "That's why it was important for me to get vaccinated. Jokes aside, we could see the complications of the virus up close, so there is no question, how important it is that my colleagues and I were able to get the vaccine."

Vaccination of health workers at the UP Clinical Centre will continue according to schedule over the next few days.
