In 2021, the University of Pécs was assessed for the sixth time in the "UI GreenMetric World University Rankings" international programme. The University of Pécs has been ranked 42nd in the world's "green universities" ranking of 956 universities, and has once again proven to be the best among Hungarian universities, earning the title of the greenest university of Hungary in 2021.
As a result of the conscious work of the past years, the Green University Programme has been given a prominent role in the life of the University of Pécs, and the "green idea" is horizontally present in almost all areas of life. Dr. Katalin Szili, member of the Board of Trustees of the UP and founding and Honorary President of the National Council for Sustainable Development, said that

The continuous development of the University of Pécs is clearly visible in the system based on objective indicators. The University of Pécs has been assessed in the international "UI GreenMetric World University Rankings" for the sixth time this year and has moved up the ranks every year.
While in 2016 PTE was ranked 355th, two years later it was 140th and in 2019, it entered the top 100 for the first time. But even that was surpassed with last year's 59th position and this year's 42nd!
"Environmental and climate protection is becoming an increasingly important part of the social discourse. Besides being a responsibility, environmental awareness and energy efficiency also mobilise considerable creative energies. All disciplines are now involved: architecture, design, medicine, political science, to name but a few. In the mainstream, the University of Pécs cannot be left out. The existence and quality of life of future generations will largely depend on our ability to transform our thinking and knowledge about the world, our environment and our lives today, and to base our lifestyles and habits on this knowledge, so that we do not exploit natural resources, or in other words live in a sustainable way. All this requires an attitude that must be acquired as soon as possible, because it is at its core a natural, self-evident one. We believe that educational institutions have a huge role to play in shaping attitudes and we are proud that the University of Pécs has a strong presence in this process." - commented chancellor István Decsi on the excellent ranking.
