The University of Sarajevo, together with its international partners, organised the Closing Meeting and Green Conference entitled “From Knowledge to Action – Universities Driving the Green Transition” on 20–21 January 2026. The event was financed by the International Visegrad Fund and brought together higher education institutions from the V4 countries and the Western Balkans to exchange experiences and strengthen cooperation in the field of sustainability and green transition.
The two-day event took place at the University of Sarajevo (Rectorate – Ceremony Hall) and attracted more than 55 in-person participants, with an additional 20 joining online, including university leaders, researchers, students and representatives of partner organisations.
On the first day’s morning the partners of the project held the Closing Meeting, during which partners reviewed implemented activities, shared lessons learned and discussed future opportunities.
The afternoon conference, „From knowledge to action – Universities driving the green transition” was open to the public, and was broadcasted online. The conference featured plenary presentations on action plans, best practices and feasible green initiatives that universities can implement even with limited resourcesThe programme highlighted the role of higher education institutions as key actors in translating knowledge into action and influencing sustainable change beyond the campus.
On the second day, students and university staff took part in the Green Challenge Circuit. This is an interactive, low-budget community activity combining light physical movement with practical sustainability challenges related to energy efficiency, waste management, food choices and green decision-making, encouraging active participation and environmental awareness.
The event successfully demonstrated how universities can act as drivers within the green transition, fostering collaboration between academics, students and the wider community while promoting realistic and inclusive sustainability solutions.
