Visit by a Laotian Diplomatic Delegation to the University of Pécs

On the morning of May 6, 2026, the Rector of the University of Pécs received a delegation from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in his office. The purpose of the visit was to further strengthen bilateral educational ties and student mobility.

Dr. Attila Miseta, Rector of the University of Pécs, Péter Árvai, Deputy Director of the International Centre, and dr. Zoltán Vörös, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, welcomed His Excellency Ambassador Khamphone Vongsanty and Second Secretary Vanida Siounethay. A special aspect of the meeting was that the ambassador himself had once been a student at the university, so his return held personal significance.

The parties reviewed future opportunities for cooperation, such as a jointly organized series of programs within the framework of the International Season. They also discussed Laotian students studying in Pécs, as well as the role of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program, which provides students with a significant opportunity to continue their studies in Hungary.

The official visit concluded with a reaffirmation of shared professional goals and a commitment to strengthening future academic partnerships.
