The London-based Quacquarelli Symonds company has published its latest university ranking today. The University of Pécs is ranked in the 651-700th category, which means that the UP has managed to climb a hundred positions (two categories) compared to 2018. In terms of international students, the first university of Hungary is among the top 200!
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has published The QS World University Rankings annually since 2004. Six simple metrics are used to effectively capture university performance:
This year, 1604 higher education institutions have been considered, based on 18 million recorded publications and 138 million recorded citations. The best thousand universities have then been ranked accordingly.
Attila Miseta highlighted at the press conference held on 10 June:
“In the International Students category the University of Pécs managed to secure the prestigious 193rd place, reaching the elite status in this respect.
From this, we can deduct, that if this criteria would be taken into account for more than only 5% of the final score, the UP would have reached an even more prestigious place. The significant growth of scientific publications and citations since last years’ results are proof of the continued development of our institution.” – emphasized the rector.
The University of Pécs is characterized by QS, one of the most trusted independent source of global intelligence about the higher education sector as a
historic, large, public university with a high research activity and a more than comprehensive subject area focus.
József Betlehem, Vice Rector for General Affairs, Connections and Strategic Affairs drew our attention to the cutting-edge international level virology researchers and laboratory of UP and their valuable efforts in the battle against coronavirus. The motto of the University does not change with respect to the next semester, the health and safety of students as well as academic staff come first. Keeping this in mind, the university continues to provide the necessary hygiene products for education as well as conducting exams, and is ready to welcome the returning international and Hungarian students appropriately prepared. The Vice Rector stressed that
Hungary is the 6th in Europe, and the 18th safest country world-wide concerning the coronavirus pandemic.
This might reassure the sense of safety in newly arriving and returning students of Pécs.
Zoltán Jenei, Chancellor of the University of Pécs has accentuated at the press conference summarizing the priority investments of the university that: “The building progress on the new academic and research wing of the Medical School has been more than adequate considering the possibilities in the state of emergency because of the pandemic. The construction company has managed to replace the professionals as well as the special materials needed relatively fast, so the work will be finished by the middle of July, and the process of technical takeover of the building may start in order to be finished by mid-August. In the last couple of months, outside works have been predominant, such as landscaping the Northern park and work on surfaces exposed to traffic. The more than 2 billion investment of the Theoretical Building of Dentistry is progressing according to schedule. At the current speed, the planned takeover of the building in August-September of 2021 may be realistic. Both of these investments are of crucial importance to the medical education in Pécs, while transforming the visual and infrastructural environment of the faculty as well” – stressed Zoltán Jenei.
