A Research Centre for National Reproductive Methodology and family-friendly obstetrics will be established at the University of Pécs from nearly HUF 2.8 billion in state support. The construction by the Investment, Technical Development, Sports Operation, and Public Procurement Private Limited Company (BMSK Zrt.) will take more than a year according to the preliminary schedules.

The University of Pécs received HUF 1.7 billion in support for the establishment of the “Research Centre for National Reproductive Methodology” and an additional HUF 301 million in the frame of the “Family-Friendly Obstetrics” tender programme, which made it possible to purchase medical and research equipment, and it also formed the basis for future investment. To complete the construction, the Hungarian state will support the project with an additional HUF 807 million, during which a 660-square-meter, newly built area will be built in the Reproductive Centre for artificial insemination, and more than 1,000 square metres of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology will be rebuilt and modernized.

As part of the two tenders, the Reproduction Centre of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology will be completely renovated and expanded.

They will create a spacious, modern reception area, double the current number of beds, and establish homely, double-bed, comfortable wards. Thanks to the development, patient care will take place in expanded laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment, and an independent research laboratory will also be set up serving the research activity of the clinic.

As dr. Ákos Várnagy, the professional head of the Reproductive Centre explained all delivery rooms, the intensive care unit, and the wards for the observation of C-sectioned mothers will also be renovated. The postnatal department will also be modernized entirely, an important part of which is the installation of air conditioning for the comfort of mothers. The long-overdue complete renovation of the south façade of the more than a hundred-year-old clinic will also be carried out.

The staff of the department and ZÁÉV Zrt. responsible for the construction

will ensure that patient care runs smoothly and that the patients experience as little inconvenience as possible.

At the same time, certain relocations and reorganizations are essential for the implementation. As a first step, the parking lots of the department and the neighbouring parking lots of the Department of Oncotherapy will be partially closed due to the space requirements of the buildings under construction and the machinery.
