Most Covid Restrictions Lifted

2021

May

27

The decree on the next stage of Hungary’s reopening has been published in the official gazette Magyar Közlöny on 22 May, and it entered into force the day after the 5 millionth Covid vaccine has been administered. Restrictions on gatherings, however, will expire after June 14. Although most restrictions have been lifted, pandemic preparedness is still necessary, because the pandemic is not over yet, and we need to prevent further infections especially in light of recently emerging virus variants. Therefore, there are certain restrictions, which stay in force for those, who are not vaccinated.

Curfew

The night-time curfew is lifted, shops, restaurants and leisure centres no longer have to close earlier.

Masks

Outdoor mask-wearing is lifted. However, masks will continue to be required in enclosed areas, where people with Covid immunity may mix with people who have not been inoculated against the virus, such as in public transport, shops, including shopping malls.

Distance

Outdoors, in public spaces it is no longer required to keep 1.5m distance. However, physical distancing in shopping malls remains mandatory.

Events

Cultural events - with the exception of music and dance events - sports events, indoor and outdoor events with more than 500 people can be attended by those with immunity certificates. Only people with vaccination certificates can attend music and dance events.

Outdoor events with less than 500 people can also be attended without an immunity certificate.

Concerning the University of Pécs

Following nationwide rules, it is not compulsory to wear a mask outdoors on University premises. Indoors it continues to be required of everyone to wear a mask and keep a safe distance.

At certain faculties, education, practice, exams and state exams may be held in person.
