Dear colleagues, dear current and former students!
We were shocked to see the devastation caused by a series of earthquakes in our neighbouring country, in the last days of December, which destroyed hundreds of buildings and caused significant damage. Croatia is in a difficult situation, and the University of Pécs always tries to help those in need.
The magnitude 6.4 earthquake on 29 December killed seven people and injured dozens. The earthquake caused significant damage to property in the towns of Petrinja and Sisak, in the surrounding villages, as well as in Zagreb. Although hundreds of people are sheltered in military barracks, many of whom need social care, several families with young children are placed in temporary accommodation, there are many people left without a home, or without shelter.
Since then, the Croatian Red Cross has moved troops from other counties to the earthquake-hit area, where, in addition to the ongoing needs assessment, they are involved in the care for the injured, the evacuation of residents and the clean-up of the sites. In addition, they undertake tasks in the installation and operation of reception areas, provide psychosocial support to the victims, and provide food and relief activities.
The management of the University of Pécs asks its academic and administrative staff, current and former students to help the victims of the earthquake!
The partner of our university is the Hungarian Red Cross, and the Croatian Red Cross aid operation can be supported by your kind donation with the help of the Hungarian Red Cross:

The University of Pécs has contacted its partner university, the University of Zagreb, whose buildings in Zagreb, but also the Faculty of Teacher Training in Petrinja in particular, were involved in the disaster and we offered our assistance, whether with the support of experts or equipments, we can participate in the assessment and repair of the damage caused by the earthquake.
Thank you for your help and support!
