Every year, the English-German Student Council (EGSC) is able to donate to charities as well as various University Departments and clinics from the donations collected at the International Evening.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the popular International Evening has been suspended the last two years. Despite this, the EGSC was still able to make donations with some remaining funds from International Evening in 2020. The recipients included the Mihály Pekár Medical and Life Sciences Library, and the Paediatrics and Infectious Diseases clinics and the Department of Orthopedics.

The Mihály Pekár Medical and Life Sciences Library received a donation of 150,000 Forints. With the donation, the library was able to purchase new charging cables and adaptors that students can now borrow while studying should they forget their own at home. The Paediatrics clinic received a 198,000 Forints donation with which they were able to purchase two medical manikins. Dr. Barnabás Rózsai, Head of the Paediatrics Intensive Care Unit expressed appreciation on behalf of the clinic and said,

“They are useful in paediatric resuscitation. We can attach these manikins through Bluetooth to the mobile phone allowing us to evaluate the effectivity of chest compressions.”

Thanks to the EGSC’s donation the Department of Internal Medicine Infectious Diseases Clinic received a scanner, which will be very useful in their everyday work, saving a lot of time. The Department of Orthopaedics received the largest donation of 1,023,000 Forints towards a kit for quadriceps tendon harvesting, which is a new innovation in knee surgery from the last 5-8 years.

“At the EGSC, we are dedicated to bettering the community we live in. It is always an honour and pleasure to see how our donations contribute to the improvement of patient care and teaching at the University. We would like to thank all the students and community members who have participated and attended our past International Evenings, because without all of you none of this would be possible.”
