In case you are applying as a Hungarian citizen, you can use the platform dedicated for Hungarian nationals to apply for higher education studies: https://www.felvi.hu/

Please note that if you apply through our online application system designed for international applicants, then you will be considered as a foreign applicant and it could causes further difficulties to get a reduced tuition fee as a Hungarian citizen.

Applicants shall pay the first year or the first semester tuition fee (depends on the study program) during the application procedure after they accept the offer. The university issues the Letter of Acceptance that is necessary for visa application after receiving the tuition fee.

In the following years, students could pay one semester tuition fee in three installments.

As for accommodation in Pécs, incoming students have two basic options. They may stay in a dormitory or seek for alternative accommodation (for example renting a flat). Please review the options here.

The UP provides a dormitory placement for every first year students, you will receive the registration form after you paid the first instalment of the tuition fee. Dormitory allocations are non-negotiable.

After the first year: In order to receive dormitory placement all students must fill out the online application form of the Student Union.

When you prepare your application, there are certain tasks that need to be performed before the application can be submitted. For this, the system provides a checklist of these tasks. Once you resolve a task, make sure to update their status from the Tasks menu.

This way, you can make sure that you have uploaded all the necessary documents.

Besides, without resolving all the tasks (uploading all the required documents) you will not be able to submit your application.

It is essential that your English/German language skills are good enough for you to undertake an intensive and challenging academic course that is taught and examined in English/German. As a result, if your first language is not English/German you will also be asked to meet a specific English/German language requirement.

Because of the Hungarian regulations, for most programs students must be at least 18 years old at the time they start the program. Eighteen is the legal age in Hungary, under that age the applicant should have a guardian to be able to handle the official and governmental issues.

Pécs has temperate climate with snowy, cold winters and sunny, hot summers, ranging from average -5°C in winters to 30°C in summers. You can enjoy the beautiful winter with sledging and ice-skating and can enjoy the sun at the terraces of many bars and cafés in the summer.

You can also have fun by the many lakes, thermal baths and swimming pools around the city. We also have beautiful autumn and spring seasons. In South Transdanubia, spring arrives early. The Indian summer here can last till November, therefore autumn starts later than usual.

In case you are unable to settle a dispute with your landlord, get in touch with the university’s Legal Aid Clinic program, a free service which offers help to know your way around in the labyrinth of legal issues. Contact them whenever you have housing, residence, consumer or civil law related problems.

In Pécs, there are some student work services where our Hungarian and international students can apply for work beside their studies. Currently, depending on your citizenship, there are different rights and obligations.​

  • If you are a student coming from an EEA state (member states of the EU and Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, and Lichtenstein), there is no limitation regarding the working hours and you need to hold a registration card.
  • If you are a citizen of a country that is not part of the European Economic Area (non-EEA state), you can be employed during your studies with a residence permit for study purposes and work 24 hours a week during your study period, or 90 days or 66 working days outside your study period. The mentor program at the University of Pécs called ‘Buddy program’ or ‘ESN buddy’ is a project within Erasmus Student Network which is supported by the Centre for Internationalization and Connections of the University.

The “buddies” give newcomer international students assistance in their integration into the university environment and help with practical matters such as applying for the residence permit and finding accommodation.
