According to the Global Peace Index, Hungary and the city of Pécs are considered to be exceptionally safe in both global and regional comparisons. In line with this fact, the University of Pécs is determined to render the highest possible quality of services to its students. This includes, among other things, that we strive to facilitate a calm, secure and inclusive environment. We put great effort into maintaining this peaceful and supportive community, resulting in a remarkably safe and secure learning experience.
The University of Pécs would like to assure its applicants and students that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict does not affect its operation and safety in Hungary!
Even though Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán declared a nationwide state of emergency on the 25th of May 2022, ostensibly due to the armed conflict in neighboring Ukraine, it was primarily to assure the country's economic and energy security.
As part of the European Union, Hungary is firmly based on the core European values of freedom, respect for human rights, and democracy to which we fully commit. Even though Hungary is a neighboring country to Ukraine, the war does not affect our country's safety. Pécs is a safe place to live and study, and we look forward to the next acamedic year to start, welcoming our newcomer international students on our campuses!
The University of Pécs stands for Ukraine, our thoughts are with the Ukrainian people, our Ukrainian students and colleagues! We fear with you for the health and lives of your families and friends. We hope to return to diplomatic and peaceful means of resolving this conflict.
