MA in Human Ecology
The aim of the study program is to train theoretical and practical human ecologists who, knowing the interactions between social and natural systems, are able to explore the social dimension of environmental problems, analyze social and cultural processes from an ecological perspective, and plan and organize them on a local and global level.

The human ecology MA deals with complex ecological, economic, social, and ethical issues that are the most pressing problems of the contemporary world. These problems have become more and more serious in the last years, and the development and delivery of scientific, professional, and practical answers reflecting on them have become more and more urgent. The training deals with these issues at the global and local levels at the same time; due to the nature of the problems, the cross-cultural search for solutions is particularly important, and the international context can clearly contribute to the birth of innovative solutions.
The goal of the program is not only to train highly qualified experts but also to train critical citizens who can understand complex global and local processes and are able to actively participate in the development of solutions.
The training is made up of the following specializations: environmental social sciences, environmental ethics, ecological economics, and the basics of natural science. Thanks to this diverse curriculum, it is a cross-faculty program. You can learn from professional staff from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, of Business and Economics, of Law, and of Natural Sciences.
Professional practice is an important part of the training, that is related to scientific research or settlement development, environmental protection, or landscape management. Programs can be carried out in the organization of the higher education institution or at a research institute, professional administration, municipality, non-profit enterprise, or non-profit organization.
The employment opportunities are extremely diverse: human ecology specialists are employed by various budgetary institutions, municipalities, ministries, climate-friendly settlements, public and private research institutes, domestic and international NGOs, cultural centers, and national parks. They have relevant knowledge in the development and implementation of rural development, environmental education, and sustainability projects.

MS Teams interview for applicants: The interview will take approximately 10-20 minutes. The main purpose of the interview is to evaluate applicants' English language proficiency, communication skills, and ability to express their academic background knowledge, interests, and motivations. It also offers applicants an opportunity to discuss their academic and professional goals with the admission committee.

The applicant has to submit the following documents by uploading them to the online application portal of the University of Pécs:
- Certified and translated (if originals are not in English) copy of undergraduate program transcripts showing satisfactory completion of BA (undergraduate) program
- BA diploma (180 credits)
- For admission to the MA programme the following prerequisites are accepted: bachelor's degrees in Political Science, Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Social Studies
- CV in English
- Motivation letter (introduction plus field of interest, etc.) in 3000 to 3500 characters.
- Copy of valid passport or national ID
- Medical certificate, (please fill the document and attach the serologic test results)
- vaccination card (showing that you are immunized against HEP B)
- HEP A/B/C test*
- HIV test*
- Chest X-ray: Please attach the chest’s X-ray result (not the film!) in English/Hungarian! (not older than 3 months)
- Transfer receipt of the EUR 140 application fee
- Acceptable online language exams:
- Admission interview (via MS Teams)
*Please note: tests have to be taken within a year!
Applicants who are still conducting their studies at the time of application must submit an official letter from their institution indicating the date of graduation. Students cannot enroll at the Program until they have successfully completed their studies at the Bachelors's level.
