The main goal of our PhD program is to provide knowledge on research in the educational sciences field, prepare students for this activity, and develop the skills needed to carry out research in this area. The main fields of the research activities of our doctoral school are the historical and theoretical perspectives of education, examination of teaching and learning processes, neuropedagogy, reading literacy, educational sociology, romology, and education of minorities. We expect students who are motivated to research these fields and intend to work in this research community.

MS Teams interview for applicants


The interview takes around 20-30 minutes. During this interview, our colleagues will ask questions about your motivation, theoretical background of your research topic, and interests. The main goal of this discussion is to learn more about your skills and scientific interest, and plans

The applicant has to submit the following documents by uploading them to the online application portal of the University of Pécs:

  • MA/MSc Teacher Degrre, or Degree in the field of Education, Sociology, Philosophy, other fields of Humanities, other fields can be accepted based on previous personal decisions
  • MA diploma certificate (120 credits) and transcript of records
  • List of publications (if already) and other scientific, or related professional activities
  • CV in English
  • Motivation letter (introduction plus field of interest, etc.) in 3000 to 3500 characters.
  • Preliminary Research Proposal in 8,000 to 20,000 characters.
  • Copy of valid passport or national ID
  • Medical certificate, (please fill the document and attach the serologic test results)
    • vaccination card (showing that you are immunized against HEP B)
    • HEP A/B/C test*
    • HIV test*
    • Chest X-ray: Please attach the chest’s X-ray result (not the film!) in English/Hungarian! (not older than 3 months)
  • Transfer receipt of the EUR 140 application fee
  • Acceptable online language exams:
  • Supporting letters from two instructor-researchers from your previous higher education institution(s) who are holders of the PhD degree (or other scientific degree equal to the PhD degree
  • Preliminary support letter from your future program leader at the Doctoral School
  • Entrance Exam (personally or via MS Teams)

*Please note: tests have to be taken within a year!

Applicants who are still conducting their studies at the time of application must submit an official letter from their institution indicating the date of graduation. Students cannot enroll at the Program until they have successfully completed their studies at the Bachelors's level.
