The Faculty of Arts at the University of Pécs offers a tapestry art training program within the Design and Media Art Department, as part of the Fashion and Textile Design specialization. Founded in 1367, the university provides a unique opportunity to study contemporary tapestry art in an inspiring historical environment. The University of Pécs has been successfully teaching tapestry art for over eight years, in a field that remains underrepresented in higher art education worldwide.

Students study in a beautiful Art Nouveau setting, working in a well-equipped and welcoming workshop on a vibrant campus shared with visual artists and musicians. Each student is provided with an individual loom, along with all necessary materials and tools, which are included in the cost of the program. Throughout their studies, students are guided by internationally recognized experts, gaining both practical and theoretical knowledge in a supportive professional environment.

The BA program is structured to gradually develop students from beginner level to independent textile artists. In the first phase, students engage in visual and form studies alongside design and workshop practice, while also receiving a strong foundation in art history and professional theory.

In the second half of the program, the focus shifts increasingly toward professional work. Students complement their artistic development with courses in sociology and philosophy, while also acquiring essential skills in scientific writing and professional presentation.

The program offers flexibility and interdisciplinary opportunities: students may take elective courses across the university and participate in professional internships during the summer. The university also provides numerous platforms for students to present their work and gain visibility.

In the final year, students complete their thesis while focusing on the development and execution of their diploma project. This culminates in an independently created body of work that reflects and synthesizes the knowledge and skills acquired throughout their studies.

Graduates of the BA program are well prepared to continue their education at the MA level upon successful admission.
