This program of study will enable our students to make a serious contribution to their field in theoretical and practical terms, utilising both inter- and multi-disciplinary approaches. Those who successfully complete their studies at Bachelor (BA) level will be well qualified to continue their studies at postgraduate (MA) level. By obtaining their BA, students will possess a wide range of skills and knowledge:
- a thorough understanding of the English language and of English-speaking peoples and cultures worldwide,
- a high level of competence in the English language meeting the competency requirements of both the Written and Oral parts of the Advanced Level State Proficiency Examination,
- familiarity with basic research- and study techniques within the field of English Studies,
- the ability to translate a variety of non-field-specific texts in an intelligent manner.
In addition, with a knowledge of the social, economic and environmental characteristics specific to Hungary and to various English-speaking countries, students will be able to exchange such knowledge in a constructive, solution-oriented manner to:
- strengthen cultural ties through a creative application of their language- and problem-solving skills,
- contribute to local cultural and civic life, especially in the area of Anglophone cultural connections,
- play active roles in mass communication, media and tourism.
It is our hope that students holding a BA in English Studies will show a lasting interest in and love for English-language literatures and cultures and will be motivated to employ their ever-increasing knowledge in a manner that is at once creative, cooperative and responsible.

MS Teams interview for applicants:
The interview will take approximately 10–20 minutes. During this time, our colleagues will ask the applicant questions about their motivation, interests, and academic goals.
The purpose of the interview is to gain a better understanding of the applicant’s language proficiency, personal skills, and scientific interests to assess their suitability for our academic community and their commitment to academic integrity.
The applicant has to submit the following documents by uploading them to the online application portal of the University of Pécs:
Certified and translated (if originals are not in English) copy of school transcripts and certificates showing satisfactory completion of senior high school.
We require an apostilled copy of degree certificates issued in the following countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Ghana, Pakistan. The admissions committee may also request additional legalization for documents issued in other countries
CV in English
Motivation letter (introduction plus field of interest, etc.) in 3000 to 3500 characters. It should focus on the candidate’s competencies, skills, educational background, and work experience. It should clearly explain their motivation for applying for the study program. Please note that the letter should be primarily about the candidate - not about the University of Pécs, preferably written by the candidate themselves and not generated by artificial intelligence tools.
Copy of valid passport or national ID
Medical certificate, (please fill in the document and attach the serologic test results)
vaccination card (showing that you are immunized against HEP B)
HEP A/B/C test*
HIV test*
Chest X-ray: Please attach the chest’s X-ray result (not the film!) in English/Hungarian! (not older than 3 months)

*Please note: tests have to be taken within a year!
** Applicants are exempt from the language examination requirement if they meet the following criteria:
If the applicant obtained their secondary education in one of the following countries: the USA, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, Australia, Canada (except French-language secondary schools), Singapore, or the Republic of South Africa
If the applicant has an International Baccalaureate (IB) qualification: Individual IB certificates may be considered for language test exemption purposes only
When applying, please include your grade 11 results, your first semester grade 12 results (Progress Report November) and official predicted grades from your school and ensure that the levels of all subjects are clearly indicated (HL, SL, A or B, etc.)
If the applicant has Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel or Oxford AQA International Examinations: with (I)GCSE + A-levels* student is exempted from English test. Cambridge, Pearson and/or Oxford AQA International A-Levels with grades A-C provide extra admission points.
When applying, also upload the following: your IGCSE results; or if you did not take IGCSEs, instead provide your (pre-A level) secondary school diploma or transcript
