The Senate of the University of Pécs has awarded the title of "doctor honoris causa" to Ulrich Dobrindt on 7 November 2024.

Ulrich Dobrindt graduated with a degree in biology from the University of Göttingen in 1995. In the same year, he began his research activities at the Institute of Molecular Infection Biology at the University of Würzburg under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jörg Hacker, an honorary doctor of our faculty, with whom we had already had a 10-year research relationship. Ulrich Dobrindt immediately joined our joint research projects and, since 2001, has been participating in our collaborative work as the leader of the Escherichia coli pathogenomics working group. Since 2011, he has been the director of the Institute of Hygiene at the University of Münster and the leader of the bacterial genomics working group. He has helped two of our PhD students at the University of Würzburg to obtain their degrees and continues to provide research assistance to our young colleagues in Münster. He has given several lectures at our Faculty's Scientific Section. He is an honorary member of the Hungarian Society for Microbiology. We have published 22 joint papers on the genetic information, gene regulation mechanisms, and phenotypic expression of virulence properties of intestinal bacteria, 17 of which are classified as Q1 publications. Our current collaboration covers research into phage therapy options.
We participated in three European Union-level research tenders as part of a joint consortium: EU Copernicus Project CIPA-CT94-0120 Project, EU6 Network of Excellence EuroPathoGenomics Project, EU7 ERA-NET Infect-ERA Project
His scientific indicators in the Researchgate database (29 December 2023): Hirsch index: 60, Citations: 14203.
Based on our joint activities to date, his age and dynamism, Prof. Dobrindt will be able to contribute to the success of the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Immunology for a long time to come.
