As universities intensify their commitments to Open Science, Rights Retention Strategies (RRS) have emerged as an important mechanism for ensuring immediate Open Access to publicly funded research. This presentation examines the Norwegian development of RRS with a particular focus on practical implementation at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN). Drawing on institutional experiences, the presentation discusses workflows, researcher support, repository practices, and the organizational realities of translating Open Science ambitions into everyday practice. The presentation argues that rights retention is not only about compliance or copyright, but also about institutional responsibility, academic autonomy, and the future governance of scholarly communication.

This roundtable brings together Open Science coordinators and research teams to explore how universities can better support open-source and research software practices. Through an interactive discussion, participants will exchange experiences on key topics including the role of Research Software Engineers, code management and version control practices, software ownership, and open-source licensing.

Designed as an open and collaborative forum, the session encourages participants to share both successful approaches and lessons learned, helping institutions develop more sustainable, transparent, and community-driven research software ecosystems.
