Rector's Greeting

Dr Adrián Fábián

Dear Visitor,

Welcome on the website of the University of Pécs!

It is well known that higher education in Hungary began in Pécs in 1367. The centuries that have passed since then have laid the foundation for our University's reputation and prestige. Today, the University of Pécs is one of our country's largest, most outstanding educational and research centres, with an extensive network of international relations. I can confidently state that our academic staff and researchers are among the very best across all disciplines.

While the University draws heavily upon its past and traditions, our foremost endeavour is to ensure we can meet the challenges of the 21st century. Our teaching must align with the demands of the technological revolution and changing labour market expectations, and our research must be capable of contributing significantly to economic, social, and scientific development—even by international standards.

For our students, alongside high-quality education, we are able to provide all the services (accommodation, cultural events, sports, etc.) that are essential nowadays to help them flourish during their university years. Furthermore, we are committed to providing students with the necessary help and support for their academic progression, whilst also ensuring there are events and programmes that make their student years truly memorable, and indeed, unforgettable.

It is also no secondary matter that Pécs is a true university city: our approximately 25,000 Hungarian and international students create a quite unique atmosphere in this city, which already possesses a Mediterranean feel and is considered one of the strongholds of Hungarian culture.

My colleagues and I are working to ensure that anyone who chooses us—whether as a lecturer, researcher, or student—will achieve their ambitions at the University of Pécs, find success as a member of our community, and discover that the knowledge they have acquired with us will assist them in realising their dreams!

With best regards,

Dr. Adrián Fábián
