The London-based Times Higher Education (THE) ranked the University of Pécs (UP) to the prestigious 155th place in the international ranking of higher education institutions including nearly 50 developing countries. With this position, UP has become, similarly to other rankings in the previous years, the best Hungarian rural university.

The University of Pécs was included in the Times Higher Education ‘Emerging Economies Rankings’, thus making it onto the list of the top 600 institutions from 48 countries. The countries included in the ranking have been classified as "developing economies" and the data of a total of 606 universities were taken into account in the final order. Thus, we can proudly say that the University of Pécs is in the first quarter of the list, as the best Hungarian rural higher education institution in this ranking, and only Semmelweis (64th) and ELTE (147th) are preceding UP among Hungarian universities.

The Emerging Economies University Rankings use the same 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators as the THE world university rankings.

They judge research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

Prof. Dr. Attila Miseta, rector of the University of Pécs

"Compared to last year, our university has improved by more than 20 positions in this ranking," said Attila Miseta, rector of UP. "If I add that the number of universities in the rankings has doubled in a few years, it will increase the value of this result even more. It is also a source of pride that UP has become the strongest Hungarian university in the category of education. At the same time, I am convinced that we can move up from here, and we will do everything we can to achieve this goal," emphasized the rector of the institution.
