The University of Pécs bid farewell to the students of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) scholarship programme with two special events. The celebrations for the 32 participants of the IISMA Vocational Program on 18 December and the 46 students of the Undergraduate Program on 21 January celebrated both academic achievements and community experiences.
The event was opened by Dr. Krisztián Bene, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, who thanked the organisations and individuals supporting the programme. In his speech, Dr. Ágoston Mohay, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law said "It is important that scholarship students also find a place where they can find solutions to all their problems", he stressed.
Dr. Eszter Tari, Assistant Professor of Cultural Studies and Development, praised the students' commitment: "I have heard from several sources that your teachers were pleased with you because you were hard-working, persistent and friendly. It was an honour for us to work with you."
The representative of the scholarship students, Rey Sanjaya, stressed the importance of the academic and cultural experience. "The freedom to choose according to our interests is a real gift that we did not always enjoy at our home university. It is like being given the remote control of our own education. What made this experience truly unforgettable were the moments outside the classroom. The University of Pécs did an amazing job in organising so many fantastic cultural experiences and programmes. In addition to the Faculty of Humanities classes, we had experiences such as folk dance evenings or baking Hungarian scones," he said.
The closing ceremony marked not only the end of a semester, but also the beginning of a lifetime of experiences and friendships. For the Indonesian students, Pécs became more than just a university town - it became their home.
