University of Pécs ranks among the best universities

The University of Pécs (UP) has once again been ranked among the world's best medical universities according to the latest QS World University Rankings. The 2024 edition of the ranking, published by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, provides insight into more than 16,400 universities worldwide in 55 academic disciplines. Among these, UP was ranked 401st-450th best higher education institution in the field of medical sciences, maintaining its position from the previous year.

The 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subjects, published on Wednesday by global higher education analytics firm QS Quacquarelli Symonds, provides an independent comparative analysis of the performance of more than 16,400 university courses taken by students from over 1,500 universities in 96 locations around the world, across 55 disciplines. QS uses five key metrics to compile the rankings by discipline. Reputation indicators are based on the responses of more than 240,000 employers and academics to the QS survey, while citation per article and the H-index measure the impact and productivity of research. The International Research Network (IRN) is used to assess cross-border research collaboration.

Tamás Fedeles, Vice-Rector for Education of UP, commented on the recent international results:

"Looking at the detailed scores, it is certainly positive that

we have made progress in important indicators compared to previous years, such as citations, the H-index, a measure of the impact of researchers' publications, and the international research network. 

Let's not forget that internationally ranked universities are obviously also constantly improving in order to enhance their position from the previous year. In comparison, we have been able to maintain our leading position in the field of medical education in this highly competitive environment. At the same time, UP is a versatile international university teaching a wide range of disciplines, so I am confident that in the coming years we will be able to join the QS ranking in other disciplines, which is recognised and ranked worldwide," said the Vice-Rector.

In Hungary, 45 programmes from 10 higher education institutions were included in the ranking published by Quacquarelli Symonds.
