Besides being the oldest university in the country, the University of Pécs has earned a prominent position in terms of international excellence as well. The entire institution, as well as many of our faculties and study programmes took leading positions in highly recognized international rankings.

World University Rankings
The 2023 list includes 13 Hungarian universities among the nearly 1,800 ranked institutions, with PTE ranked in the 1001-1200 category. The criteria taken into account are: quality of teaching and research, academic citations, international and industrial relations.

Universities are ranked against the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals in the Impact Rankings. PTE attaches importance to these goals and is proud of the fact that our university has achieved a ranking in each of the goals, with outstanding results in several of them: in the categories of health and well-being (FFC3) and decent work and economic growth (FFC8), PTE was ranked second among Hungarian universities, and in the topic of action against climate change (FFC13) it was tied for first.

QS World University Rankings: Europe 2024
The University of Pécs has been ranked 325th on the list of the best higher education institutions in Europe by Quacquarelli Symonds.
This time, the experts ranked nearly 700 universities from 42 countries across Europe based on 12 criteria from five groups of experts. Among other things, they compared institutions on indicators such as the research ecosystem, career prospects after university and sustainability. The University of Pécs clearly achieved the best result in the international students' indicator, ranking 100th as the first university in Hungary in the prestigious field. In this respect, the University of Pécs was the second best among Hungarian institutions. This good performance is certainly also due to the fact that the university has attracted students from more than 130 countries. The University of Pécs also achieved an outstanding ranking in terms of the faculty-student ratio, coming 152nd in this indicator.

GRAS ranks universities in 54 subject lists based on scientific publications and citations. PTE is ranked 401-500 in both public health and clinical medicine, ranking first in the former and second in the latter, respectively.

In 2023, the University of Pécs was ranked for the eighth time in the "UI GreenMetric World University Rankings" international program.
