Stricter measures in mask and home quarantine requirements

The Hungarian Government introduced stricter mask requirements from 2 November 2020. Rules of home quarantine also modified from 29 October.

Mask requirements

From 2 November, wearing a facemask is required in all areas of shops and shopping centres, at sports events, concerts, theatres, cinemas, bars, cafés, and restaurants.

The mask should only be removed while consuming a drink or food purchased on site. The mask is also required at concerts - performers are only exempt from wearing a mask if they play music live.

Police will monitor the new rules. Infringements will be sanctioned with warnings or fines (fines can range from 100,000 HUF to 1,000,000 HUF). Businesses can be closed down ranging from a 1-day minimum to a 1-year maximum.

Children under the age of 6 are NOT required to wear a mask.

Fines for leaving the quarantine have been increased, ranging from 5,000 HUF to 150,000 HUF. The number of daily fines is not limited per person, several fines can be imposed on the same day. The maximum amount of daily fines is 600,000 HUF. The fines must be paid to the Police bank account published on their website within 15 days.
