The Illyés Gyula Faculty of the University of Pécs is located in Szekszárd which lies about 60 km to the north east of Pécs, near the A6 national route, which connects Budapest with Pécs. The town lies in an area where the Great Plain and the Transdanubian Hills meet. Vineyards have been cultivated here ever since Roman times, and the region is famous for its wines not only within the country, but abroad as well. Szekszárd is one of the most dynamically developing towns in South Transdanubia both economically and culturally. Its museum, the county archives, its library, the cultural centre and the arts centre enjoy an excellent reputation, and the city is also home of the country's only one German theatre.
