We offer Hungarian language courses in autumn and spring semester of each academic year. The semester course is designed to students of the University of Pécs or anyone who is interested in studying Hungarian. The program builds a strong foundation for further Hungarian language studies in four lessons per week. Our aim is to include the maximum use and appreciation of the special native environment, so we mainly focus on the development of communication skills. ISC organizes the courses in small groups (4-10 students in a group) at five levels. For the semester program that contains 48 contact hours, 2 times 90 minutes per week. UP students can apply on Neptun free of charge. The condition for completion of the course is a successful written and oral exam at the end of the semester.
1) The Milestone Stage
is designed for beginner language learners. If your Hungarian proficiency is below low-intermediate (B1) level, you need to substantially develop your listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. Communicative and cooperative language classes assist you to attain intermediate (B1) level. Preparatory students having reached and applicants being already at intermediate level can continue their studies in the Upgrade Stage.
2) The Upgrade Stage
focuses on language development in a manner that resembles more the academic context awaiting you. 400 contact hours are spent with thematically focused language education assisting you to attain upper-intermediate (B2) level. Preparatory students having reached and applicants being already at upper-intermediate level can continue their studies in the Gateway Stage.
3) The Gateway Stage
is specifically designed for students with outstanding Hungarian skills (already reaching or exceeding B2 level). Preparatory course students will join this stage after attaining B2, upper-intermediate level in the Upgrade program. The 400 contact hours merge language instruction (Academic Hungarian and HSP) with field-specific subject teaching. Thus students improve their language skills while becoming knowledgeable in their future field of degree studies.
