In order to be eligible for university studies in Hungary, a student must demonstrate that they meet several requirements for the course or program. There are certain general entry requirements that all students must meet. In addition, there are entry requirements that are specific to the course the student is applying for. For example, an engineering course may require a higher level of previous maths studies. Information on the specific entry requirements can be found on the individual program page.

ELIGIBILITY
PREPARATORY COURSES In order to be offered a place in a preparatory course, you must have successfully completed your upper secondary (high school) education or have been awarded a college degree.
BACHELOR PROGRAMS In order to be offered a place in a bachelor's (first cycle or undergraduate) program, you must have successfully completed your upper secondary (high school) education and be able to demonstrate the minimum language requirement.
BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (BED)TRAINING In order to be offered a place in BEd training, you must have been awarded a Bachelor's degree in Teaching by an internationally recognized university and be able to demonstrate the minimum language requirement.
MASTER PROGRAMS In order to be offered a place in a master's (second cycle or graduate) program, you must have been awarded a Bachelor's degree by an internationally recognized university and be able to demonstrate the minimum language requirement.
PHD PROGRAMS In order to be offered a place in a PhD program, you must have been awarded a Master’s degree by an internationally recognized university and be able to demonstrate the minimum language requirement.
NON-DEGREE POSTGRADUATE SPECIALIST TRAINING In order to be offered a place in Postgraduate Specialist Training, you must have been awarded a Bachelor's or Master’s degree by an internationally recognized university and be able to demonstrate the minimum language requirement.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

A firm knowledge of English or German is absolutely necessary to be able to take our courses in English or in German. Concerning the international programs offered by the University of Pécs, the language requirements are the following.**

You do not have to submit an official English test result if one of the following criteria applies to you: 

  • You have a major/minor in English, i.e. the English language is the field of study (studies in English linguistics or literature)
  • You have continued your high school or undergraduate studies in the English language
  • You are a native English-speaking applicant (a copy of your passport for proof)

**Having a language certificate is not a compulsory requirement for all the study programs we offer. We can also conduct a Skype interview during your application to assess your English communication skills. For information about which study programs waive the English language certificate criteria, please contact us at international@pte.hu.

Hungarian language:
International students are not required to be able to speak Hungarian in order to participate in the programs of the University of Pécs offered in English or German. However, you are encouraged to learn some Hungarian in order to be able to communicate with the local people (although the majority of young people and, certainly, your teachers will speak English and German). In order to develop your Hungarian, you can join various Hungarian preparatory courses.
